Dr Malin Arvidson
Senior Research Assistant, Third Sector Research Centre, University of Southampton
Malin is undertaking qualitative impact research for TSRC. She is currently reviewing various aspects of how the impact of third sector organisations is articulated and demonstrated.
Her main research interests include the rhetoric and practice of NGOs, NGOs and staff motivation.
Experience
Malin has a background in sociology and development studies. Over the past ten years she has carried out fieldwork in Bangladesh on a yearly basis, mainly focusing on the work of local NGOs, and, more recently, primary health and education. She has also conducted research on changing rural livelihoods and poverty alleviation strategies.
Malin is also involved in a longitudinal study commissioned by the Swedish International Development Coorporation Agency, Sida. The 5-year study, called Reality Check Bangladesh, was initiated in 2007 and aims to explore poor people’s perceptions and experiences of the education and health sectors. Malin’s empirical work has mainly involved qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach, such as observations, participatory approaches, interviews and focus group discussions.
