Our Structure

The Third Sector Research Centre is an academic partnership, led by the Universities of Birmingham and Southampton, with Middlesex University leading on Social Enterprise, and contributions from the University of Kent on Theory and Policy.

The Centre is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, Office of Civil Society and Barrow Cadbury Trust. See more about our funders

We are advised by a Steering Committee, Advisory Board and research stream Reference Groups. See Governance for more information.

As well as our main research, the Centre overseas three Capacity Building Clusters which exist to build research in different areas of the sector. See Capacity Building

Research structure

Our work is divided into 9 main research streams, which include: Real Times, Below the Radar, Social Enterprise, Theory and policy, Service Delivery, Quantitative Analysis, Economic and Social Impact, Workforce and Workplace and Environment. Many of these work streams are cross-cutting, but provide useful way in to our research. We also conduct other collaborative projects.

See Research for more details.
