This event enabled elected representatives, council officers, senior managers from local government and across the public services to hear from expert speakers on the new commissioning landscape and identify the key practical implications which will affect the approach and decisions they take in the context of the next two Budgets.
- How do councillors and officers work together to achieve the desired social outcomes through good commissioning
- what questions should councillors ask their officers when looking to commission services
- how do councillors balance decision-making based on strong evidence with community consultation.
Participants discussed what commissioning is, how to commission services, and how to increase understanding of the differences between delivery capacity, risk profile, additional value added, cultures, social/community impact and outcomes for individuals.
