Monday 28 November 2pm – 5pm
CIPFA, London, WC2N 6RL

Guest speakers Doug Taylor, Leader, Enfield Council
Rose Doran, Senior Advisor, LGA,
Professor Fergus Lyon, TSRC,
Dr James Rees, TSRC
and Dr Stephen Duckworth OBE, The Serco Institute

This event enabled elected representatives, council officers, senior managers from local government and across the public services to hear from expert speakers on the new commissioning landscape and identify the key practical implications which will affect the approach and decisions they take in the context of the next two Budgets.

It addressed:

  • How do councillors and officers work together to achieve the desired social outcomes through good commissioning
  • what questions should councillors ask their officers when looking to commission services
  • how do councillors balance decision-making based on strong evidence with community consultation.

Participants discussed what commissioning is, how to commission services, and how to increase understanding of the differences between delivery capacity, risk profile, additional value added, cultures, social/community impact and outcomes for individuals.

Further presentations and a write up of the day will be available shortly. Contact Dee Noonan, 020 7543 5679, for more information or email info.pmpa@cipfa.org
